The Psychic Seance is an exhibition of audio/visual media and performance events organized in celebration of the summer solstice. This unique experience consists of immersive, cross-sensory audiovisual environments featuring installations, screenings, and performances by artists working in live video, sound, film, and interactive technology. The artworks engage in experimental practices, interrogate perceptual boundaries, question heteronormative paradigms and honor the cosmic alignment of celestial bodies. Featured works: installations
Sweating Small Stuff
Kameron Ackerman (nb/he/him) VHS to digital, installation
Moments that in the past have felt like tiny triggers approached in a new way, rendering their power over me useless, or at least much less potent. A video remixing footage originally shot in 1998/1999, mostly focusing on people and rituals. The audio is taken from one radio show pared down to its essence, rendered unrecognizable.
When the Stars Came Down From Earth
Crystal Z Campbell (they/them) & Nathan Young (he/him) digital video
When the Stars Came Down to Earth uses star maps and sound recordings of space to imagine a different type of timekeeping and storytelling, one that marks time, place, and events using star charts. A spherical image projected onto the surface depicts star maps. These star map images index the appearance of the sky from a time and place of pivotal events in world history, creating a cyclical narrative of events marked by star images in place of conventional time-keeping methods.
all night (various obsessions)
nilson carroll (he/they)
an interactive media installation exploring interruptions to bodily and spiritual health.
It is a queer prayer, a broken mirror, a re-aligning, an intense act of longing.
Hollows
Michael Chernoff
Interactive Multi-Channel Video Feedback
CRT Monitors, Camcorder, CCTV, RF TV Tuner, Media Player Files
The Electric Heliotrope Dancefloor
Lorne Covington (he/him) digital projection
Walk on to the Electric Heliotrope Dancefloor and patterns of light start swirling around you. As you move, gesture, twirl, the light dances with you, becoming more complex; as you move near others, your patterns interact with theirs forming a jointly created work of moving, living, art.
Living Circle
Joel Dow (he/they) interactive video
Living Circle is a live video projection feedback loop casting a moving circle of light from ceiling to floor. Viewers may enter and interact with the circle, interrupting and affecting the loop.
a laser is assigned to find the darkness
Taimur Gibson (they/them) interactive A/V installation
A laser array is aimed at a mirror placed on top of a speaker. By driving sound through the speaker, the acoustic vibrations experienced by the mirror create a chaotic pattern of laser light. Visitors are encouraged to experiment with the provided electronic instruments to see what effects they are able to create.
The Cluttered House
Jenn Libby (she/her) 16mm to video installation
The Cluttered House is a transmission from the ether – my imperfect memories of an abandoned house in Michigan. Was I infected that night? I took a diary, a book, and a cigar box. Now I live in the cluttered house filled with other people’s lost memories.
